Know your clusters
Turkish furniture production is highly regional, and choosing the right cluster matters as much as choosing the right factory:
- İnegöl (Bursa): design-led upholstered furniture, sofas and bedroom sets; hundreds of mid-size factories used to export programs.
- Kayseri: high-volume panel and flat-pack (RTA) production — the natural partner for retail chains and e-commerce.
- Istanbul: showrooms, contract/project houses and export offices.
- Ankara (Siteler): custom and classic production in smaller workshops.
Why buyers are switching from Asia
Furniture is bulky. Shipping wardrobes across the world means paying to move air — so freight and lead time weigh more heavily in landed cost than in almost any other category. From Türkiye, a container reaches most of Europe by truck in under a week, and the EU Customs Union removes duty entirely. For Gulf projects, İnegöl and Kayseri are three days by road.
What to watch
Quality and capacity vary enormously between factories that look identical online. Before committing a program, insist on:
- A factory audit — machinery, drying rooms, foam and fabric suppliers, real capacity.
- Pre-production samples signed off against a written specification.
- Inline and final inspections — especially for finish, foam density and packaging drop-tests.
- Consolidation planning — mixed containers across several factories are routine here, but someone must own the schedule.
